Hazardous weather, including gusty winds, is not something that leave buildings unaffected. It is therefore essential to apply solutions that secure buildings and the people within them. The high speed of hurricanes and items sent flying in the wind can cause significant damage to structures, including glazing, leading to irreparable damage inside. When wind penetrates the structure of a building, changes in the air pressure lead to catastrophic results. ALUPROF has received positive results for hurricane tests conducted in line with the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) guidelines and Florida Building Code Testing Application Standards (TAS) , 202-94, and 203-94. The tests were carried out on the ALUPROF MB-79N  fixed and tilt-and-turn window system, and on the MB-45 fixed window system, which is widely used in the construction of buildings in the USA.

ALUPROF also performed tests to confirm the water resistance of the structure in a situation where extensive damage has been done to the profiles and glazing. It was essential for the window structure to maintain its resistance to external conditions after the event. Following the impact testing, the damaged sample was subjected to simulations of positive and negative pressure in the sequence set out in the standard. It is worth noting that as many as 4,500 cycles of tests are carried out with varying levels of pressure acting on the structure.

The testing process, which lasted for many hours, and the certifications it resulted in, confirm that ALUPROF’s systems can be used in regions where there is a high risk of hurricanes, including the east coast of the USA and part of the State of New York. However, it should be borne in mind that some places may have further regulations as regards manufacturer certification or additional static calculations.
