Where is the future of architecture and the construction industry heading? Will it be sustainable? What are the chances of that happening? Álvaro Siza is an artist who designs not only architecture, but also jewellery, furniture, and functional objects, not to mention his work with drawing and painting. In just a few days time, he will be answering our questions in the Future Builders studio. The latest interview in the series inspired by leading Polish and European aluminium joinery manufacturer ALUPROF SA is scheduled for 3.00 PM on 14th October.

A multi-instrumentalist amongst architects

Architect Álvaro Siza graduated from the Faculty of Architecture at the University of Porto. He has won a host of awards and been nominated for many more. He is a winner of the Pritzker Architecture Prize (1992) and, having been nominated for the single-home category of the 2007 Russian International Architectural Awards, he went on to serve as a jury member for the competition, to give just two examples.

Siza is frequently invited to take part in media events and makes numerous contributions not only to leading architectural journals, but also to documentary and television films. He is also a regular speaker at international conferences.

The profusion of architectural projects he has designed include Casa Tolo in Alvite, Museu da Água and Museu do Vinho for Cartaxo Town Council, the Manuel Cargaleiro Arts Office in Quinta da Fidalga, the Manual Cargalerio Foundation Museum in Vila Velha de Ródão, the Ginkgo Gallery of Contemporary Art in Porto and the Centro de Actividades Artísticas e Culturais Multidisciplinares Fez, also in Porto.

Coming soon! The final session

Future Builders’ final guest will be architect, scholar and academic teacher, Bogdan Zaha, of Zaha Hadid Architects Ltd. His designs have been the basis for buildings such as a futuristic arts centre in Abu Dhabi, a new airport building in Beijing and Terminal 6 at London’s Heathrow Airport. His areas of expertise are parametric modelling and advanced geometric design methodologies. Both those topics will feature in the discussion during the Future Builders interview with him.

We look forward to seeing you there!
