A 4-METRE-LONG TRANSOM WITH A LOAD-BEARING CAPACITY OF 1,100 KG? WITH ALUPROF, IT’S EMMINENTLY POSSIBLE!

The Reduced Transom Deflection (RTD) system by ALUPROF is one of a kind. A highly innovative solution which combines the advantages of glazing units with the load-bearing role of a transom, it allows wide, transparent lights to be created in mullion and transom curtain walls. Wherever a façade features dramatic, large-scale sweeps of glazing and traditional systems fail to meet the challenge, ALUPROF’s PATENTED Reduced Transom Deflection solution will save the day! The innovative RTD system is available for the company’s MB-SR50N and MB-SR60N façades.

The RTD solution works on the principle of making a static glazing unit work as a shield at the centre of a span by supporting the transom, which undergoes deflection from the weight of the glass, by means of a tailor-made, integrated suspension system. This custom-designed method for reducing the deflection of transom makes it possible to create wide lights and, by the same token, long transoms of up to 4 metres, while still meeting the transom deflection requirements of L/500 or 3 mm set out in the PL-EN 13830 standard. ALUPROF's mullion and transom façade systems also include transom-to-mullion connectors with a load capacity of 5.5 kN. This allows glazing with a maximum weight of 1,100 kg to be used.

The cutting-edge technologies available from the ALUPROF range are a sure-fire route to overcoming the barriers which have previously hindered the design of mullion and transom curtain walls. Indeed, it is thanks to ALUPROF that large, wide, panoramic sweeps of glazing can be used in the façades of a building.

Before the Reduced Transom Deflection system was brought into the company’s range, it underwent a long, rigorous and demanding testing process, which was carried out in collaboration with the Silesian University of Technology. Strength tests, initial type testing and destruction tests were conducted. They confirmed the efficacy of the solution and the results were corroborated in the applicable reports.

The Reduced Transom Deflection system is yet another innovation by ALUPROF which has been patented with the European Patent Office in order to protect the intellectual value of the solution and the technical thinking it represents.
