THE CURSE OF ABUNDANCE. An Ewa Ewart documentary and aluprof’s engagement with ecological issues

ALUPROF is joining a UN Global Compact Green World Foundation initiative promoting an ecological education project in the form of a documentary film entitled The Curse of Abundance (2019). The film was directed by Ewa Ewart, a journalist whose works have received a host of awards. She specialises in watershed films which address their audiences with forceful impetus.

Ewa Ewart was born in Poland and grew up here, but has spent most of her professional life in the UK, working for the BBC in London. She has travelled to, and worked in, numerous countries around the world, making investigative and political documentaries and television programmes which focus on social questions. She is a Global Compact Ambassador for Sustainable Development.

Ewa Ewart’s The Curse of Abundance is supported by Global Compact Network Poland. Together, we are striving to attain the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, first and foremost by acting with awareness in terms of combating climate change. Ewart’s film shows the dilemma faced by the Yasuni National Park in Ecuador and, in doing so, it poses a question to the entire international community. Bearing in mind the ecological consequences of continuing to extract oil, what are we risking if we turn our backs on radical change to the way we exploit that fossil fuel around the world?

It is worth mentioning that, as part of the Kęta Group, ALUPOL is a signatory of the UN Global Compact. As a member of Global Compact Network Poland, we are engaged in activities supporting and promoting Ewart’s new documentary. The film not only draws the audience’s attention to the environmental problems confronting the inhabitants of the Yasuni National Park. It also shows how the troubles of far-off Ecuador have become everyone’s problem because responsibility for protecting the world around us rests on the shoulders of the entire international community.

The ecological education project, which is being carried out by the Fundację Green World (Green World Foundation), supports the implementation of UN’s Sustainable Development Goals 13 and 15. Representatives of ALUPROF and its partners attended a gala screening of the film at the ZAMEK Culture Centre in Poznań on 19th September 2019.
